Meet William who has been a patient at Nashville General Hospital off and on since 1948 - shortly after his birth at a East Nashville Clinic.
Most days, you will find William on Thompson Lane near 100 Oaks as a street performer playing his spoons and singing. William continues to have health challenges and credits Nashville General as his source of healthcare provision. He often states that he wishes more Nashvillians knew and understood the needs of so many people who come to Nashville General Hospital. It means all the world to these patients of whom more than 45% arrive with little or no ability to pay for badly needed services. |
PROGRAMS FUNDED BY NGH FOUNDATION
The NGH Foundation is not a grant making organization. Funds raised by NGHF are dedicated to NGH Foundation programs supporting the patients, families, neighbors, staff and volunteers associated with Nashville General Hospital. Food Pharmacy and Food Pharmacy Outreach This program provides no cost fresh produce and shelf stable foods for any NGH patients or neighbors identified with food insecurity. Nutritious foods are provided in response to the patient's diagnosis with special care for diabetes, hypertension and cancer. Resources are maximized by paying for shelf stable products from Second Harvest Food Bank, when possible. Supported by Amerigroup Foundation, Team Chad, Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation, and others. Donors may also support through Woman2Woman, Holiday Honor Meals and the Reverend Enoch Fuzz Tribute Campaigns - found in the GIVE tab above! The NGH Foundation Health Literacy Campaign targets a critical need for every community knowing that individuals wanting to make informed decisions about their health and healthcare need more information provided within a culturally, linguistically and understandable context. The Health Literacy Campaign leads two efforts today: leading the Nashville Health Literacy Forum engaging perhaps 60 local NPOs and providing more than 13,500 sheets to Food Pharmacy recipients in an easy-to-understand format on general topics to address healthcare decisions. Patients Medication Fund Supported provided the Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation and NGH Employee Giving. This fund underwrites the provision of essential medications for patients unable to afford those costs until links to community long term resources are secured. Support for cancer patients beyond medical needs Support provided by Team Chad Team Chad provides funds to support the nutritional, transportation and housing needs of oncology patients. No-cost Prostate Examination and Bloodwork Panel for male patients over 40 Support provided by Astellas Pharma This program provides no-cost screening for male patients over 40. Appointments scheduled by Central Scheduling at 615-341-4968. |
